Member Spotlight - Liza and Charlie Douglas
Liza Douglas and her son Charlie Douglas both joined our choruses in the Fall of 2023. Liza grew up in a very musical family -- think barbershop "jams" every holiday -- and sang in groups all through her childhood and college a capella years. After many years of letting her extracurricular interests get edged out by work and family, when her kids reached double digits in age she decided to claim "me time" and get back to singing. Liza appreciates how welcoming the Congressional Chorus has been, and how delightfully "low lift" for an overextended working mom who can show up each Monday and find her happy place: at full volume in the middle of a chord.
Meanwhile, Liza's son Charlie clearly inherited the musical genes, even as an infant matching mom's lullaby notes by ear. After a few years of wounding his mother with claims that singing wasn't cool, by 4th grade Charlie started to change his tune (sorry), and joined AYC. He likes the song selections and the chance to perform in fancy places around DC. Liza and Charlie also get to perform together -- they especially like when CC and AYC do a combined song -- creating shared music memories.
